Dear Gen-X Women:
Have you dipped your toe in the AI pond yet?
I've turned into an evangelist when it comes to AI and my fellow GenX women.
When I was just a young girl, I got married and became a mother relatively quickly. I dreamed of making towers out of popsicle sticks, building pillow forts, helping tiny hands learn to make homemade pretzels, and taking trips to the zoo with my kids. At 30, I felt virtuous for becoming a SAHM.π€¦ββοΈ
Looking back, I don't think that trading a career for motherhood and full-time parenthood was a good idea.
I've actually never set this thought out in the world before.
I traded a 401(k) retirement plan, a solid chunk of retirement income from Social Security, and exercising my brain regularly to gain financial independence.
That last one still stings even after having started Curio three and a half years ago.
Being a SAHM isn't all Mary Poppins and teaching opportunities.
It's also a tremendous shift in the power dynamic within the parents' relationship. Unfortunately, as much as I tried to believe it wasn't true at 28, money = power-- in even the most equitable relationships.
I've spent these last few years trying to bridge the gap between what I knew 27 years ago and what I need to know now. That's a huge f#ck*ng gap.
That's why I'm a proponent of SHE IS AI's mission. I don't want any woman to lose the skills the market values like I did. The reality is genuinely frightening, losing agency after 50.
Please get to know the women at SHE IS AI. Wherever you stand in the way of the AI tsunami, protect your own ability to be financially viable by learning more about it.
